The family is able to restore Daphne's memories by taking advantage of her ability to see other people's memories through physical contact. Later Jim is informed about a thief getting away with an 8 million dollar painting. Just before Jim saves a man's life by pushing him out of the way of a moving bus, in return the man, named Dave (Rick Schroder), invites the Powells over for a barbecue. Dave's kids befriend J.J. and Daphne. Their son helps JJ with Natalie by pretending to flirt with her. Eventually, JJ gets mad and knocks Troy down with a single punch. Later, Troy compliments him, saying, "Nice hook." and JJ gets out of "the friend zone." The daughter convinces Daphne to run for class president against the school's mean girl. Daphne uses her mind-reading power to say exactly the right things in her speech, and wins the election. George informs Jim that similar art thefts took place in Seattle and Boston. Jim reluctantly suspects Dave when he remembers those were places that Dave and his family lived prior to moving there. Afterward, Jim confronts Dave only to damage his friendship with him. Upon further investigation, and a confession, Jim learns it is Dave's wife Michelle (Annie Wersching) who is the art thief. Jim gets Stephanie to convince Michelle to turn herself in, unfortunately Michelle is shot after Stephanie tries to intervene before Michelle works one last job. Michelle lives but is arrested by the police Stephanie called prior to intervening. In a subplot Katie is having intimacy issues with Joshua (formerly Will) because she is still a virgin. When she tells Joshua this he awkwardly leaves. The next day he confronts Dr. King that he is done doing his dirty work. Dr. King warns him that if he does have a relationship with Katie he will be denied the injections that give him his powers. Joshua goes through with it anyway and goes back to Katie. After sleeping with Joshua, Katie wakes up early only to find Stephanie's journal (in which she documents her and Jim's powers and which was recently stolen by Joshua) in Joshua's jacket.
